Edgar Feuchtwanger

Edgar Feuchtwanger ( born September 28, 1924 in Munich) is a German - British historian.

Life

Edgar Feuchtwanger is the son of the publisher Ludwig Feuchtwanger and the nephew of the writer Lion Feuchtwanger. As a child he lived with his family in Munich near the private residence of Hitler. He attended elementary school and then from 1935 to 1938 the Maximilian Gymnasium in his hometown. In February 1939, the family emigrated to England. Feuchtwanger attended Winchester College, made ​​from 1943 to 1944 military service and studied from 1944 to 1947 at Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he received his doctorate in 1947. In 1948, he first taught adult education and history in 1963 at the University of Southampton. 1981/82 he was Visiting Professor at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main. 2003, the Federal Cross of Merit awarded him.
