Edgar Nemir

Edgar "Ed" Nemir ( born July 23, 1910 in Waco, Texas, † February 1, 1969 in Reno, Nevada) was an American wrestler and boxer and winner of the silver medal at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in wrestling ( free style) featherweight.

Career

Edgar Nemir came from Kentucky. He attended high school after his time, the University of California at Berkeley, where he studied sports. Since his youth he dealt with wrestling and boxing. In the years 1929 and 1930 NCAA ( American University Sports Association ) Collegiate was champion of California in freestyle wrestling featherweight and 1933 and 1934 he won this title in boxing.

Although Edgar Nemir in wrestling either in the NCAA and still in the AAU (American athletes Union) All- American Champion was ( U.S. Masters ), he won the 1932 U.S. Olympic excretion and could start at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. There he won with three wins and one defeat against Hermanni Pihlajamäki from Finland the silver medal in free style at featherweight. At other international championships Edgar Nemir could not participate due to lack of opportunity. It was in those years neither World Championships Pan American Games yet.

After these Olympics Edgar turned increasingly from 1933 to the boxes. 1934 he has been head coach for boxing at the sports faculty at the University of California at Berkeley. This office he held until 1969.

1932, Silver Medal, The Olympic Games in Los Angeles, free style, Featherweight (then to 61 kg body weight), with victories over Christian Schack, Denmark, Herbert Rowland, Canada & Joseph Taylor, the UK and a defeat against Hermanni Pihlajamäki, Finland
