Edgaras Jankauskas

Edgaras Jankauskas ( born March 12, 1975 in Vilnius ) is a former Lithuanian footballer. As a tall striker, he was mainly due to its very physically oriented style of play known, but also also had great technical skills and had an above average ball feel for a player his size.

The Lithuanian national team began his career at the club FK Panerys Vilnius and then joined at the age of 16 years Zalgiris Vilnius. In 1996 he moved to the Russian capital to CSKA Moscow and spent after just one season there another year at local rivals Torpedo Moscow.

Jankauskas left Russia in 1998 and hired the Belgian side FC Bruges, with whom he won the championship in the ongoing season. In January 2000 he was appointed by this time most expensive Lithuanian players, when he moved to Real Sociedad for a transfer fee of 2.3 million euros to Spain.

From there, he was loaned within the 2001/ 02 season at the Portuguese club Benfica and after eight goals in twelve games there committed for the subsequent season of coach Jose Mourinho at FC Porto. Jankauskas won under the regency of Mourinho once the Portuguese Cup, two championships and one after the other in the years 2003 and 2004, the UEFA Cup and the Champions League.

After the departure of Mourinho in the direction of Chelsea Jankauskas was screened out of the squad and joined on loan to French club OGC Nice on. But even in France, he could not establish himself and changed to Scotland to the club Heart of Midlothian, where he was however officially sold to Lithuania to FBK Kaunas and borrowed from there to Edinburgh. In his first season for the "Hearts" and its gates made ​​sure that he could win the Scottish Cup and his club for the runner reached the qualifying matches for the Champions League.

In 2010, he finished his career in the service of the New England Revolution in Major League Soccer. His last game he played 6 June 2010 against the Seattle Sounders FC.
