Edgard de Larminat
Edgard de Larminat ( born November 29, 1895 in Alès, † July 1, 1962 in Paris) was a French general during World War II.
Shortly after the fall of France, he joined as one of the most important military figures the Free French Forces ( Forces Françaises Libres fr., short FFL ) in order to keep fighting against the Third Reich and the Vichy regime. He became a main figure of the Free French in Africa as a member of the Conseil de Défense de l'Empire and as commander of the 1st Free French Division ( fr. 1ère Division Française Libre, short 1ère DFL). He played a decisive role in the liberation of France and Italy.
