Edge crush test

The edge crush resistance R ( ECT value - Edge Crush Test) provides information about what is maximum force a corrugated sample with a defined length and height ( 100x25 mm) was claimed. The edge crush resistance R, expressed in kilonewtons per meter ( kN / m) is calculated by the equation: wherein the average of the maximum force and is expressed in Newton. More details stipulated by the DIN EN ISO 3037, Feb 1996.

The ECT value can be used for the approximate calculation of the stacking strength of a carton ability ( BCT value ). To calculate the BCT value, the formula is easiest according to McKee, but also the least accurate. The ratio of height to scope must be greater than 1:7; even then shall many reservations.

McKee formula: BCT = 5.876 * ECT (kN / m) * square root of [ box size ( mm) * Corrugated Board thickness ( mm) ]

If one uses the circumference in cm instead of mm in results due to the shape

BCT = 1.86 * ECT * square root of [ box size ( cm) * Corrugated Board thickness ( mm) ] ).
