Edgecombe County, North Carolina

Edgecombe County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Tarboro, which was named after the current flowing in nearby Tar River.

Geography

The County is located in the central northeastern North Carolina, is located in the north about 60 miles from Virginia and has an area of ​​1312 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. History

Edgecombe County was formed on April 4, 1741 from parts of Bertie County. It was named for Richard Edgcumbe, a British nobleman, Member of Parliament and Minister of Finance. In 1987, the County and Tarboro for the film Summer Heat.
