Edi Hans Pawlata

Edi Hans Pawlata ( born February 19, 1900 in Vienna, † December 31, 1966 in Vienna ) was an Austrian pioneer of Canoeing.

On July 30, 1927 the Vienna Edi Hans Pawlata demonstrably became the first Europeans, the Eskimo roll. In 1928 he published his textbook entitled Kipp, Kipp, hurray! In purebred kayak, in which he describes his technique.

In 1926 he developed the boat Aijuk, a folding kayak after westgrönlandischem model with 4.90 m length and 47 cm width, which was manufactured by the Otto Faltbootfirma Hartel in Graz in series.

In his book on the Eskimo roll Jens Reinhold Pawlata quoted: " Quite contrary to the expectations of old extended paddlers I have succeeded on 30 July 1927 as the first European sports man, sit up in a kayak after capsize again. This (p. 3f ) of the spell to the centuries-old Eskimo secret was broken and the kayaking had ceased to exist only for the name. "
