Edi Stecher

The Vienna Edi Stecher is since 1984 an Austrian Righteous Among the Nations. He received this award for the shelter grant the Jewish Melvine German.

German was previously in a forced labor camp from Siemens in Floridsdorf, Vienna. When she was deported from the camp in a transport to the Mauthausen concentration camp, she escaped on the way out of the train and went to Vienna, where she turned to her unknown Anna Manzer.

The Gestapo was the search for the fugitive from transport to Mauthausen German not to. When threatened her at the home of Manzer danger, this turned to her brother Stecher. German remained some months at Stecher, without being discovered by the Gestapo.

Through the recording of German in her apartment Stecher and Manzer did not have enough rationed food. Since her parents Louis and Anna Friessnegg stepped in and provided the hidden German food. Often had German also be brought into their home when the Gestapo was searching around for hidden Jews. German was able to leave her home healing after liberation.

Even Ludwig and Anna Friessnegg and his sister Manzer are Austrian Righteous Among the Nations.
