Edina is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota. It is located immediately southwest of Minneapolis in the metropolitan region of the Twin Cities and has around 47,000 inhabitants.

History

Originally Edina was a part of the present town of Richfield. European ethnic settlers had settled in the 1850s and 1860s in the area around Minnehaha Creek. In 1888 a meeting was held at which it was decided to split the southwestern part of Richfield and to establish their own place. Different names such as Hennepin Park, Westfield and Edina were available. With 49 to 42 voices Edina prevailed.
