Edinburgh International Film Festival

The Edinburgh International Film Festival ( EIFF ) is a film festival held annually in Edinburgh, for two weeks films with a complementary framework program are shown on the in June. It was launched in 1947 and is the oldest continuously held film festival in the world. The EIFF is focused on film premiers of British and international films and also displays the work of filmmakers.

Formation and bandwidth

The first Edinburgh International Film Festival showed documentaries and was organized by the Edinburgh Film Guild. It took place in 1947 simultaneously with the Edinburgh International Festival ( EIF) instead, which takes place every year in August. At that time the most important annual film festivals were the International Film Festival of Cannes and the International Film Festival of Venice. A jury awards the Michael Powell Award for best new British feature film. The public can vote for the Standard Life Audience Award and a jury awards the Skillset New Directors Award. Venues

The main venues of the festival is the Edinburgh Film House, which was once the partner organization of the EIFF, the Cameo, Cineworld Fountain Park, Edinburgh Festival Theatre and the Dominion Cinema. Some events were held in recent years at the Sheraton Hotel, the Traverse Theatre, The Caves and various other venues. In Glasgow, the Glasgow Film Theatre, and Renfrew St Cineworld were also venues. But since 2005, the festival has hosted no more film screenings in Glasgow.

There are proposals to build a new movie house in Edinburgh after a design by architect Richard Murphy. This would Sean Connery Filmhouse hot. It would be near the existing Filmhouse and would be the future home of the festival with its larger capacity.
