With the professionalisation of sport the Scottish FA (SRU ) began to form 1995 new teams to compete in the Heineken Cup can. This also included the team from Edinburgh, which was called at the time, Edinburgh Rugby. Because of the new building of Murrayfield Stadium, the SRU had financial problems and reduced the hitherto existing four teams to just two. In the course of this development, the team from Edinburgh was merged with the Border Reivers and was renamed later as Edinburgh Reivers.

2001 founded the organizations from Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the Celtic League, which also belonged to Edinburgh. 2002/ 03 they won the Scottish League, which took place only in this one year.
