Edith Bouvier Beale was the daughter of the Wall Street lawyer Phelan Beale and Edith Ewing Bouvier his wife (1896-1977), daughter of Irish and French-born New York banker John Vernou Bouvier II ( † 1948) and Maude Sergeant.
