Edith Evans

Dame Edith Evans, DBE ( born February 8, 1888 in London, † October 14, 1976 in Cranbrook, Kent) was a British theater and film actress.

Life

Edith Evans stood since the early 20th century to the theaters of Great Britain and played in the course of their career all the great roles that the theater has to offer. For the film, she was to inspire little. Although she played in 1915 and 1916 in silent films. Her first role in the sound film, she took over, however, only at the age of 61 years in 1949. For her role in Whisperers (1967 ) she received the 1967 Silver Bear at the Berlinale in 1967, in 1968 a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination. For her contributions to the arts in 1946 it was raised to the peerage and was allowed henceforth call Dame Edith Evans.
