Editio Regia

Editio Regia (Royal Edition) is the third and most important edition of the Greek New Testament by Robert Estienne ( 1503-1559 ). It is one of the most important printed editions of the Greek New Testament in the story, the Textus Receptus. The name Editio Regia got it because of the beautiful and elegant Greek printing types that are used for printing.

The edition was revised in 1550 by Estienne in Paris. It is the first Greek Testament with a critical apparatus. Estienne added at the edges of the pages to alternative readings from 15 Greek manuscripts and the Complutensischen polyglot. He called all of these sources with symbols of α 'to ις '. The Complutensische Polyglot has been referenced with α '. This critical compilation was a new task. Although Estienne left out hundreds of important variants of important evidence, so this was but the first step to modern textual criticism.

The oldest manuscript that was used in this issue, was the Codex Bezae. This was for him, " Friends in Italy " ( secundo copy vetustissimum in Italia from amicis collatum ) together. The majority of these manuscripts are still kept in the Bibliothèque nationale de France.

Estienne made only small changes to the text of Erasmus. So he said in Luke 17,36 some verses the text of Erasmus added that he took from the Codex Bezae.
