Editors (band)

Editors are a British indie rock band with strong bonds in the New Wave and post-punk spectrum.

History

The band was established in 2003 in Birmingham. Members of the band are Tom Smith, Chris Urbanowicz, Russell Leetch and Ed Lay. They met up. At Staffordshire University in the course Music Technology All band members have there also completed her music studies.

In January 2005, the debut single Bullets with which they reached the UK Singles Chart at first appeared. On alternative radio stations, the single one of the most played songs was. With their second single, the band confirmed this success.

The second album An End Has a Start appeared on 22 June 2007, the first single was Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors. On October 9, followed in 2009, the third album In This Light and on This Evening.

In a BBC interview, the band played on the record that first demos for another album already exist and work after the Berlin Festival 2010 can be started.

In April 2012, guitarist and keyboard player Chris Urbanowicz got out of the band. This decision had been taken with a view to the future musical direction and with great sadness. The festival planned for 2012 but have not been canceled.

To May 7, 2013 the advance began for the fourth album The Weight of Your Love, which was released in July 2013 on CD, vinyl and MP3 download with eleven new tracks.

Style

Her style is similar to Bloc Party, The National, The Killers, Interpol and The Bravery, heavily influenced by bands such as Elbow, Doves, Joy Division, the early REM and Echo & The Bunnymen. Particularly striking is the baritone voice of their singer Tom Smith, reminiscent of Ian Curtis of Joy Division or Sivert Høyem of Madrugada.

Others

  • The medieval rock band In Extremo who covered the song An End Has A Start from the eponymous album on their album Sängerkrieg. Contrary to the original, however, the refrain line it says " You came on your own, that's how you'll leave ," sings In Extremo frontman Michael Robert Rhein " You came on your own, that's how you live ."
  • During the Accelerate Tour 2008, the band R.E.M. Editors were active on some concerts as the opening act.
  • In June 2010, the band participates in several concerts, such as on 19 June at Goffertpark in Nijmegen, as the opening act of the British band Muse also in their Resistance Tour. Previously, both bands played at the 25th anniversary of Rock am Ring.
  • In Winter 2011, published singer and frontman Tom Smith, together with Andy Burrows ( Razorlight) an album of Christmas songs titled Funny Looking Angels.
