Edme Mariotte

Edme Mariotte (c. 1620 probably in Dijon, † May 12, 1684 in Paris) was a French physicist.

Mariotte was first Catholic priest in Dijon, where he served as prior of St. Martin sous- Beaune and. Since the founding of the Academy of Sciences in 1666 he lived in Paris and worked on problems of liquids and gases. With his name the Boyle's Law and the Mariotte bottle are connected. Mariotte is also considered the inventor of Newton's pendulum.
