Edmond de Stoutz

Edmond de Stoutz ( born December 18, 1920 in Zurich, † January 28, 1997 Zurich ) was a Swiss conductor. First, he had studied in Zurich law, but then switched to music and learned at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Zurich, as well as in Salzburg and Vienna, cello, piano, oboe, percussion and composition. He played two years as a cellist and percussionist with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and founded in 1945 a so-called House Orchestra Association. From this was 1951, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, whose line de Stoutz held until 1996. In 1962, he also founded the Zurich concert choir.

De Stoutz was known for in his concert programs to fall back again to Swiss composer, he also repeatedly gave to commissions. He was also responsible for several premieres Swiss plants, among others, Frank Martin, Peter Mieg, Paul Muller- Zurich or Rolf Urs Ringger.

Prizes and awards

De Stoutz in 1965 awarded the Hans- Georg Naegeli Medal of the city of Zurich. He also received the Award of the Doron Foundation and the 1991 Freedom Prize of the Max Schmidheiny Foundation.
