Edmonton Ice

The Edmonton Ice were a Canadian ice hockey franchise in Edmonton, Alberta. The team played from 1996 to 1998 in one of the three highest Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Western Hockey League ( WHL).

History

The Edmonton Ice were established in 1996 as a franchise of the Western Hockey League. In their only two seasons in the WHL, they managed to reach fourth of the Central Division playoffs for the Ed Chynoweth Cup in either the 1996/97 season as Fünter the Central Division, even in the 1997/98 season. Due to the continued success of the Miss managers replaced at the beginning of the 1997/98 season their coach Dave Siciliano by Ryan McGill. Since the Edmonton Oilers wanted from the National Hockey League no direct competition from the WHL in their city, they would not let Edmonton Ice his games in Rexall Place unsubscribe, so the team had to resort to a small suburban hall. Because of financial problems the franchise was finally in 1998 to Cranbrook, British Columbia, resettled, where it has since participating under the name Kootenay Ice game on operation of the WHL.
