Edmonton Oil Kings

The Edmonton Oil Kings are a Canadian ice hockey team from Edmonton, Alberta. The team plays since 2007 in one of the three highest Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Western Hockey League ( WHL).

History

On 16 March 2006, the Western Hockey League announced the award of an expansion franchise known, which they in Edmonton, Alberta, settled. The franchise was named by its new owner, the company Rexall Sports, after the former WCHL Edmonton Oil Kings team, whose coat of arms, the new franchise was awarded in modified form also. In the 2007 /08 season, the Oil Kings reached with 22 wins in 72 games and 55 points in fifth and thus last place in the Central Division. In the following season they were again fifth in the Central Division, but they could increase by twelve points to 67 meters, making the team from Alberta for the first time reached the playoffs for the Ed Chynoweth Cup. In the first round the team was denied by the later finalist Calgary Hitmen in the best- of-seven series with a sweep.
