Edmund Joensen

Edmund Esbern Johannes Joensen ( born September 19, 1944 in Oyri ) is a Faroese politician of the Unionists ( Sambandsflokkurin ) and was Prime Minister from 1994 to 1998 the Faroe Islands ( Løgmaður ).

Edmund is the son of Hansina, born Samuelsen from Haldórsvík and Poul Joensen from Oyri. He is married to Edfríð, born Johannesen from Norðskáli.

Since 1988 he is a member of Løgtings (except his time as head of government). 1990-2001 he was chairman of the unionists who argue for a close relationship between the Faroe Islands to Denmark. 1994-98 he was a member of the Danish Folketing ( during his time as head of government, he was represented ).

Since 2002, Edmund Joensen is Chairman of the Løgtings. In the general election in 2007 he was chosen as one of the two Faroese deputies to the Danish Parliament.

He is Chairman of the Faroe Committee. He is the first Faroese history, the chairman of the Folketing Committee was.
