Edmund Landolt

Edmund Landolt ( born May 17, 1846 in Kirchberg near Aarau, in the municipality of Kuettigen; † May 9, 1926 in Paris, reformed, hometown entitled in Aarau ) was a Swiss ophthalmologist.

Life

Edmund Landolt came on May 17, 1846 in Kirchberg near Aarau, the son of the pastor Rudolf Landolt and Rosina Baumgartner was born to the world. He took a degree in medicine at the University of Zurich, where he graduated in 1869 with the acquisition of the academic degree of Dr. med. He was then a short time as an assistant and senior physician at the Eye Clinic of Johann Friedrich Horner worked.

Subsequently he undertook study trips and completed advanced training in Utrecht in 1872, before moving in 1874 to Paris. There he founded a private eye clinic at the rue Saint -André des Arts. He also worked as an ophthalmologist at the Institution National des Jeunes Aveugles as well as employees of Émile Javal on ophthalmological laboratory at the Sorbonne. He also served as co-founder of the "Archives d' ophtalmologie ".

Edmund Landolt was married to Valerie Born Pretty.

Work

Edmund Landolt continued his research focuses on physiological optics. In addition, he was responsible for the development of numerous methods for the examination of the eyes. The Landolt rings back to him, standardized optotypes for testing visual acuity.
