Edmund W. Samuel

Edmund William Samuel ( born November 27, 1857 in Blaenavon, Wales, † March 7, 1930 in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1905 and 1907 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1859 Edmund Samuel came with his parents from his native Wales to Ashland in Pennsylvania. He attended the public schools of his new home and worked in the coal mines. Then he learned the profession of pharmacy. After studying medicine at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and his 1880 was admitted as a doctor, he began practicing in Mount Carmel in this profession. There he worked 1890-1894 as a school principal.

Politically, Samuel was a member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1904 he was in the 16th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrats Charles Heber Dickerman on March 4, 1905. Since he has not been confirmed in 1906, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1907.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Edmund Samuel worked as a doctor again. In 1908, he unsuccessfully sought his return to Congress. Between 1908 and 1924 he was General Manager of the company Shamokin -Mount Carmel Transit Co. He then moved to New York City, where he spent his life in Brooklyn. He died on March 7, 1930 in Mount Carmel, where he was also buried.
