Eduard Bacher

Eduard Bacher ( born March 17, 1846 in Postelberg, Bohemia, † January 16, 1908 in Vienna) was an Austrian journalist.

Life

Bacher, who came from a Jewish family, attended the gymnasium in Chomutov and after high school studied law in Prague ( where he was also active in the Corps Austria, but later retired again) and in Vienna. After a brief spell as a lawyer in Vienna, he was a stenographer in the Austrian parliament and parliamentary journalist. In 1872, he joined as a staff writer for the Viennese newspaper Neue Freie Presse, where he was editor in chief in 1879 and a little later also the editor and co-owner. Bacher was a friend of Theodor Herzl.
