Eduard Charlemont

Eduard Charlemont ( born August 2, 1842 in Vienna, † February 7, 1906 ) was an Austrian portrait and genre painter.

Life

Edward was the son of the miniaturist Matthias Adolf Charlemont. He worked from 1870 in the studio of Hans Makart. During a multi-year stay in Paris, he was particularly influenced by Ernest Meissonier.

Charlemont painted for the foyer of the Vienna Burgtheater three each 18 m long ceiling paintings.
