Eduard Kojnok

Eduard Kojnok ( born August 14, 1933, Velka Sucha, now part of Hrnčiarska Ves, † 27 October, 2011 Rožňava ( Rosenau ) ) was a Slovak priest and Roman Catholic Bishop of Rožňava.

Life

Eduard Kojnok received on 24 June 1956 in Bratislava ordination. He was chaplain in 1956 Breznicka ( Kleinbresnitz ) and in 1956 committed to military service. In 1958 he became chaplain in Smolník ( Schmöllnitz ), 1960, he moved to Velka nad Iplom, 1961, after Hodejov and 1964 after Smolník. After brief use as a Spiritual Director of the Seminary in Bratislava, he was a chaplain in 1968 Hnúšťa ( Nusten ) and 1970 in Jaklovce ( Jakelsdorf ). In 1977 he took over the Pfarradministratur in Dolna Strehová and 1982, the Governorship of Gemerská Poloma.

After three decades as a chaplain and Pfarrprovisor in agriculture and small town communities of communist Czechoslovakia, he was first appointed after the Velvet Revolution by Pope John Paul II in 1990 to the Administrator of the Diocese of Rožňava. John Paul II appointed him on 14 February 1990 Bishop of Rožňava ( Rosenau ).

He received his episcopal consecration of the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Cardinal Jozef Tomko, on 18 March 1990; Co-consecrators were Ján Sokol, Archbishop of Trnava, and Ján Chryzostom Korec SJ, Bishop of Nitra.

In 2000, he recognized the Catholic community Stabat Mater Maria as Episcopal Community. In 2003 he was the host of Pope John Paul II during his visit abroad in Slovakia in Rožňava. In 2007 he founded a memorial to John Paul II and Paul Hnilica in Rožňava.

On December 27, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI. its age-related resignation. Kojnok died on October 27, 2011.
