Eduard Markarov

Eduard Artjomowitsch Markarow (Russian Эдуард Артёмович Маркаров; Armenian Էդուարդ Արտյոմի Մարգարով; born June 20, 1942 in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR ) is a former Armenian football player and coach.

Life and career

Born in Baku Markarow began to Lokomotiv Baku playing football before he joined Torpedo Armavir 1959. His father was already Artyom Markarow football players.

1961 Eduard Markarow was finally the big club Neftschi Baku ( until 1968 the club was still wearing the name Neftjanik Baku ) is committed where he was brought by coach Boris Arkadjew. There, the striker was left up to the 1970 season and played a total of 251 league games for his club, where he scored 88 goals. Even in the Soviet national team, he completed some games, so he was about to Soviet squad at the World Cup 1966 in England. He then moved to Ararat Yerevan 1971 Markarow to Armenia. With Ararat he celebrated in the 1973 season the greatest success in the club's history, winning the doubles Soviet ( Soviet league titles and Soviet Cup profit). For this he was still awarded in the same year with the Soviet honorary title of Honored Master of Sports. In the European Cup of Champions 1974/75 he was top scorer along with Gerd Müller.

After he again won the Soviet Cup with Ararat in 1975, he ended his football career. Even today he is with 129 doors together with Awtandil Gogoberidse in fourth place of the top scorers of the former Soviet league.

From 1976 to 1977, 1984 to 1985 Markarow worked as a coach of his old club Ararat Yerevan. From 1986 until the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, he finally took care of the Soviet youth national team as assistant coach.

He then coached the club Malatia Yerevan from 1992 to 1994, the Armenian national team. After a spell at Erebuni Yerevan 1996 for three years he went to Lebanon, where he coached Homenmen Beirut - an association of the Armenian minority in Beirut, where previously even his old team-mate Arkadi Andreasjan had worked. In 2000 he returned to Armenia and coached there until 2002 MIKA Ashtarak. After a long break he took from 2008 to 2010 again as coach, this time in Cilicia Yerevan and in 2011 a second time at MIKA Ashtarak.
