Eduardo Avaroa (also: Abaroa ) is a province in the southeastern part of the Oruro Department in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location

The Eduardo Avaroa province is one of sixteen provinces in the Oruro Department. It lies between 18 ° 39 'and 19 ° 30' south latitude and between 65 ° 42 ' and 66 ° 42 ' west longitude.

It is bounded on the northwest by the province Poopó, on the west by the province and the province of Sud Carangas Ladislao Cabrera, and to the south and east by the department of Potosí. Nestled in the province Eduardo Avaroa between the two municipios lies the province Sebastián Pagador.

The province extends over 100 km in east-west direction and 90 km in north-south direction.

Population

The population of the province Avaroa has risen in the past two decades by nearly half:

44.1 percent of the population are younger than 15 years. 78.3 percent of the population speak Spanish, 71.9 percent and 23.0 percent Quechua Aymara.

82 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 94 percent have no sanitary facilities (1992).

68.9 percent of the working population is employed in agriculture, 0.5 percent in mining, 6.9 percent in industry, 23.7 percent in the service sector ( 2001).

86.6 percent of the population are Catholics, 11.9 percent are Protestant (1992).

The province is divided into the following two counties ( bolivian: municipios ):

  • Municipio Challapata - 27 638 inhabitants (Update 2010)
  • Municipio Quillacas - 4,650 inhabitants
