Eduardo Mata

Eduardo Mata ( born September 5, 1942 in Mexico City; † 4 January 1995) was a Mexican conductor and composer.

Life

Mata studied in Mexico with Rodolfo Halffter and 1960 with Carlos Chávez, then at Tanglewood / Erich Leinsdorf Massachusetts, Max Rudolf, Gunther Schuller and Igor Kipnis. Since 1964 he has headed the Balet Clásico and then became Director of the University Orchestra of Guadalajara. He also traveled as a conductor through Mexico, the United States and Europe. In 1972 he left Mexico and conducted first the Phoenix Symphony and from 1977 to 1993, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He died in a plane crash.

Mata composed three symphonies, a ballet for tape, chamber music, a piano sonata, and other piano works.
