Career

Clubs

Vargas played at youth first times in various clubs in the Chilean municipality of Renca. In 2006 he moved to first division side CD Cobreloa. There, the then 16 -year-old was first used in the third-rate second- team of the club, but was soon in the top league for use. After he had already gained a reputation at a young age and had risen to the youth national team of his country, he was obliged in 2010 by 16 -time champion Chilean club Universidad de Chile. In his new club he succeeded in 2011, the big breakthrough when he was in 36 league games hit 17 times and became the top scorer of Copa Sudamericana. Therefore His good performances also made top clubs from Europe attention to Vargas.

National

In 2008, Vargas should participate with the Chilean U- 20 at the South American Championship in Venezuela, but he missed due to injury. For the A- team, he was on 20 January 2010 for the first time used. In September 2011, he gained great attention when he scored both goals for Chile at a 2:3 defeat against world and European champions Spain.
