The Education, Audiovisual and Culture (EACEA, English Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency) is an agency of the European Union based in Brussels. The Agency has started work in January 2006. It is subject to the control of the European Commission and report regularly on the implementation of the programs entrusted report.

In the EACEA is an Executive Agency. These take under the EU agencies a special position. They are set up by the European Commission and are responsible for the management of certain programs. They are not set up on a permanent basis, but only for a limited period and rank pari passu of a Directorate General of the European Commission. In contrast to the other EU agencies, they must be in Brussels or Luxembourg, settled.

The legal basis for this executive agency is the one the EU Council Regulation 58/2003 of 19 December 2002 and Commission Decision 2005/56/EC of 14 January 2005.

Tasks and objectives

  • " Socrates ": set action program in the field of education, second phase by the decision of the European Parliament and the European Council
  • " Leonardo da Vinci ": set action program in the field of vocational training, first phase by the European Council decision
  • "Youth " Community action program, established by the Decision of the European Parliament and the European Council
  • " Culture 2000 ", set up program in the field of European culture by the decision of the European Parliament and the European Council
  • " MEDIA Plus (2001-2005) ": set program to encourage the development, distribution and promotion of European audiovisual works, by the European Council decision
  • " MEDIA Training (2001-2005) ": training program for the European audiovisual program industry, approved by Decision of the European Parliament and the European Council
  • " Erasmus ": furnished promotion program in the field of higher education (improving quality) and intercultural understanding ( cooperation with third countries ), by Decision of the European Parliament and the European Council
  • "Europe for Citizens (2007-2013) ": used program for the promotion and development of policies and institutions of developing an active European citizenship
