Education City

Education City ( German Education City, Arabic المدينة التعليمية ) is a new neighborhood on the outskirts of Doha, the capital of Qatar. The urban district was designed by the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki. It houses the offshoot of several American universities and is the site of the planned new building of the National Library of Qatar. The project is funded by the Qatar Foundation with funds from the oil and gas production.

Universities

As of 2009 will be offered individual courses within the framework of the project of six American universities:

  • Since 1998, Virginia Commonwealth University: Design and Fashion Design
  • Since 2001, Cornell University Medical
  • Since 2003, Texas A & M University at Qatar: chemistry, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, oil and gas technology,
  • Since 2004, Carnegie Mellon University: economics and computer science
  • Since 2005, Georgetown School of Foreign Service: International Politics
  • Since 2008, Northwestern University: Journalism
  • Since 2011, HEC Paris
