EDumbe Local Municipality

EDumbe (also éDumbe or Edumbe; engl eDumbe Local Municipality. ) is a municipality in South Africa Zululand district in the province of KwaZulu -Natal. The administrative center of the municipality is located in Paul Pietersburg. Alsine Hlatshwayo is the mayor. The IFP represents the majority in the City Council.

The namesake of the municipality is the eDumbe Mountain. The word comes from the eDumbe Zulubegriff Amadumbe that designates a potato-like tuber that grows on the slopes of the mountain. 2001, the municipality had 82 243 inhabitants. It covers an area of ​​1943 square kilometers.

Geography

EDumbe located in the north of KwaZulu -Natal and Zululand in the northwest of the district and borders the province of Mpumalanga. About three-quarters of the municipality 's population lives in rural areas.

Economy

EDumbe has a railway station in Paul Pietersburg and is thus linked to the South African rail network. The R33 runs through the territory of the municipality, providing an easy access to the long distance network.

The economic pillars of the community are agriculture and tourism. Timber industry, corn and livestock are in eDumbe most frequently. To Paul Pietersburg also some manufacturing companies have settled.

EDumbe is known for its hot springs. Near Paulpiertersburg there is a wellness center that Natal Spa Hot Springs Resort & Conference Centre. The water is highly mineralized and very good for bathrooms suitable. Tourists can also visit some historical sites.
