Edvard Carleson

Henrik Edvard Carleson ( born November 16, 1820 Valstad, Östergötland, † April 1, 1884 in Stockholm) was a Swedish statesman, who served as Justitiestatsminister 1870-1874 both Prime Minister and Minister of Justice of Sweden.

Biography

The great-grandson of Mr and writer Karl Carleson and the deputies, National Treasurer and writer Edvard Carleson began after the school in 1841 to study law at the University of Uppsala in 1841 and put his state exam. After that, he became an employee of the Lower Justice revision before he was appointed Assessor to the Swedish Court of Appeal ( Svea Hovrätten ) 1850.

Between 1850 and 1851, and in 1853 and 1854 he was a member of the Reichstag stands there and represented the nobility and chivalry of the Committee on Legal Affairs. During his renewed membership in the stands the Reichstag he was from 1856 to 1858 representatives of the nobility in the Constitutional Committee.

In 1858, he was director of the Office of Justitiestatsminister Louis De Geer and was there in 1859 promoted to the rank of a Permanent Under-Secretary and 1860 Judicial Council. After that was 1868-1874 Chairman of the Trollhättan Canal Company ( Nya Trollhätte kanalbolags Directorate ).

On 4 May 1874 he was finally. Itself as the successor of Axel Adlercreutz Justitiestatsminister and thus was both Head of Cabinet and Minister of Justice After only a little over a year he resigned on May 11, 1875, and handed over the office of Justitiestatsminister back to Louis De Geer.

He himself was in 1875 Supreme Court Justice ( Högsta Domstolen ), the Supreme Court in civil and criminal matters.

Carleson, who also in 1874 at the same time became a member of the First Chamber of the Diet, 1878 was First Vice President of the First Chamber.

On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the founding of the University of Uppsala him an honorary doctorate of jurisprudence in 1877 awarded.
