Edwar al-Kharrat

Edwar al - Charrat ( born 1926 in Alexandria ) is an Egyptian writer.

Life

After completing his law studies al - Charrat worked in various fields, including banking, insurance, and as a journalist. His commitment was there from the beginning in Afro-Asian writers' organizations.

In the late 1940s he became politically active in the " National Movement " in Egypt, and he had to spend two years in the concentration camps Aboukir and Tur under King Farouk.

After his release from prison he also began to work in Cairo as a novelist. He also writes short stories, acting as critic, translator and editor. His work includes three volumes of short stories and ten novels, a few of which is published in German.

In 1999 he received the " Naguib Mahfouz Prize from the American University in Cairo"; 2004 was al - Charrat guest of the Arab League at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
