Edward Ashley-Cooper

Edward Ashley -Cooper ( born August 12, 1904 in Sydney, Australia, † May 5, 2000 in San Diego, USA; actually Edward Montague Hussey Cooper) was an Australian actor.

Life and work

In the 1930s, Ashley was one of the leading actor in the British film scene. Both the theater and in films Ashley played mostly villains roles. From the 1940s was Ashley -Cooper appeared in numerous supporting roles in Hollywood films such as Pride and Prejudice as Mr. Wickham. Because of its great resemblance to his compatriot Errol Flynn, he was cast in the role of the Black Fuches in The Court Jester. His career lasted for almost six decades and he brought it to about 70 film appearances, in which he also played a lot Theather. He had his last appearance in 1988 in the film travel back in time in a supporting role as a professor.

Ashley was married twice: In the 1930s, for four years with Nora Swinburne, also an actress; and from 1943 with Renee Torres, with whom he was married 55 years until her death in 1998. His first wife, with whom he had his only child died four days before him on May 1, 2000. He died on 5 May 2000 at the age of 95 of a heart attack in San Diego, California, and was buried at sea.
