Edward B. Almon

Edward Berton Almon (* April 18, 1860 near Moulton, Lawrence County, Alabama, † June 22, 1933 in Washington, DC) was an American lawyer, judge and politician ( Democratic Party).

Career

Edward Berton Almon attended the village school and then graduated from the State Normal College in Florence ( Alabama). After he graduated in 1883 on the Law Department of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1885 and began practicing in Tuscumbia (Alabama ).

Almon also pursued a political career. He was 1892-1894 Member of the Senate of Alabama. Then he held 1898-1906 the post of judge at the eleventh judicial district of Alabama. Almon was between 1910 and 1915 a member of the House of Representatives from Alabama. During this time he held the post of Speaker in 1911. Almon was elected to the 64th U.S. Congress and reelected to the nine succeeding U.S. Congresses. He was in the U.S. House of Representatives from March 4, 1915 until his death in Washington, DC 1933 active. During this time, he had presided over the Committee on Roads ( 72nd and 73rd U.S. Congress ). He was buried at the Oakwood Cemetery in Tuscumbia (Alabama ).
