Edward Burtynsky

Edward Burtynsky C ( * 1955 in St Catharines ) is a canadian artist who became known for big -format photographs of industrial landscapes. The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the National Gallery of Canada and the Bibliothèque nationale de France to show his works.

Life

Burtynsky's parents came in 1951 as an immigrant from Ukraine to Canada. His father worked at General Motors in the band. With his father Burtynsky developed in the domestic Darkroom Black and White films and learned to make prints. In the early 70s Burtynsky began taking photography courses. He studied Graphic Arts, he graduated in 1976 with a diploma of Niagara College in Welland from. Later he acquired at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute a BA in Photography.

Prizes and awards

In April 2006, Burtynsky was appointed Knight of the Order of Canada. He also holds three honorary doctorates: in Law from Queen's University ( Kingston); in Photography from Ryerson University, Toronto; and a Fine Arts from Montserrat College of Art, Boston. In 2005 he won the TED Prize.
