Edward Crossland

Edward Cross Country (* June 30, 1827 in Hickman County, Kentucky, † September 11, 1881 in Mayfield, Kentucky ) was an American politician. Between 1871 and 1875 he represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Edward Crossland attended the public schools of his home. After a subsequent law degree in 1852 and its recent approval as a lawyer began in Clinton to work in this profession. In the years 1851 and 1852, he served as sheriff sheriff in Hickman County. Politically Cross country became a member of the Democratic Party. From 1857 to 1858 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Kentucky. As a supporter of the Confederacy during the Civil War he served in the Confederate States Army. He participated in several battles and increased 1861-1865 from Captain to Colonel on.

Between 1867 and 1870 Cross Country Judge at the Court of Appeal was the first judicial district of Kentucky. In the congressional elections of 1870, he was the first electoral district of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Lawrence S. Trimble on March 4, 1871. After a re-election in 1872 he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1875 two legislative sessions. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Crossland initially practiced as a lawyer again. In August 1880 he was appointed as a judge in the first judicial district. This office he held until his death on September 11, 1881.
