Edward Fox (actor)

Edward Charles Morrice Fox, OBE ( born April 13, 1937 in Chelsea) is a British actor.

Life

Edward Fox was born the first of three sons of an English actor family. His brothers James Fox and Robert Fox are also active in the film business. His paternal half-brother, Daniel Chatto, the husband of Lady Sarah Chatto, a niece of Queen Elizabeth II, he wanted to be a soldier and served as a Lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards first, then decided, however, to be an actor.

He had in 1963 in a small supporting role in This Sporting Life which his first brief appearance. In the late 1960s and early 1970s he established himself with bigger roles in films such as The Go-Between and the Battle of Britain. He had in 1973 in Fred Zinnemann's The Jackal His final breakthrough - Fox played in the bomber who planned the assassination of the French President Charles de Gaulle. This was followed by roles in Richard Attenborough's film A Bridge Too Far (1977) and the Oscar- winning film Gandhi (1982).

Fox also acted in several television productions, including 1993 The Maitland with Eileen Atkins and Bill Nighy. In 1997, he starred in " A Dance to the Music of Time", a TV mini- series starring Nicholas Rowe and Gillian Barge. In recent years, he preferred participated in supporting roles. Fox is considered a classic British gentleman - actor whose often supercooled acting presentation promoted his reputation as a typical upper-class Englishman.

Edward Fox was married from 1958 to 1961 with the London actress Tracy Reed, with whom he has a daughter, Lucy Arabella. After the divorce of Reed he lived with the British actress Joanna David, whom he married in 2004. The couple has two children, Emilia and Freddie, which are also active as an actor.

For his role as Lord Hugh Trimingham in The Mediator ( The Go- Between), he won the 1971 BAFTA (British Academy Film Awards) Best Male Supporting Actor. For his role as Lieutenant General Horrocks in A Bridge Too Far, he won in 1977 in the same category again the BAFTA Award. In 2003 he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire, which his services was recognized by the British theater and cinema.
