Edward G. Rohrbough

Edward Gay Rohrbough (* 1874 in Buckhannon, Upshur County, West Virginia, † December 12, 1956 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1943 and 1945, and again from 1947 to 1949, he was the third election district of the state of West Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

The exact date of birth of Edward Rohrbough is not known. The sources range from 1874 as his birth year. He attended the public schools of his home, including the West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon. Then he studied until 1900 at Allegheny College in Meadville (Pennsylvania) and then to 1906 at Harvard University. Rohrbough finished his studies at the University of Chicago. He then embarked on a career in the teaching profession. He was a teacher at West Virginia Wesleyan College and West Virginia University in Morgantown. In the years 1900 and 1901 he taught in Brookville (Pennsylvania ); 1901 to 1907 he was a teacher at the State Normal School in Glenville (West Virginia). In the years 1907 and 1908 Rohrbough was vice-president of the State Teachers College in Fairmont. From 1908 to 1942 he headed the Glenville Teachers College. In addition to these activities in the teaching profession, he engaged also in banking.

Politically, Rohrbough member of the Republican Party. In 1942 he was chosen as their candidate in the third district of West Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he succeeded the Democrat Andrew Edmiston on January 3, 1943. Since he Democrat Cleveland M. Bailey defeated in the elections of 1944, he was able to complete up to January 3, 1945 only one term in Congress, which was shaped by the events of World War II.
