Edward H. Rollins

Edward Henry Rollins ( born October 3, 1824 in Somersworth, New Hampshire, † July 31, 1889 on the Isles of Shoals ) was an American politician ( Republican). He represented the State of New Hampshire in both chambers of the U.S. Congress.

Rollins attended public schools and private schools in Dover and South Berwick (Maine). He then took a job in the commercial sector. 1855 began his political career with election to the House of Representatives from New Hampshire, where he also served as Speaker during his term of office lasting until 1857. In 1860 he was elected as representative of the 2nd District of New Hampshire House of Representatives of the United States. There he remained after two re-election to March 3, 1867.

This year, Rollins moved within the Congress in the Senate. There he was, among others, Chairman of the Committee on Manufactures during his six- year term. In 1882 he failed in an attempt to re-election.

After he had been previously employed as a secretary at the Union Pacific Railroad, took Edward Rollins 1886, the President of the Boston, Concord & Montreal Railroad, which he held until 1889. He also founded the First National Bank of Concord and the bank EH Rollins & Sons in Boston.

Rollins died in 1889 and was buried in Concord. In his honor, the part of the city Somersworth, in which he was born, renamed Rollinsworth.
