Edward Hennig

Edward Hennig ( born October 13, 1879 in Cleveland, Ohio; † August 28, 1960 ) was an American gymnast and two-time Olympic champion.

In the Summer Olympics 1904 in St. Louis, he won two gold medals. He won the individual competition in the Club Swinging and shared the victory on the high bar with his compatriot Anton Heida. He was a member of the Cleveland gymnastics club forward and achieved with this the 13th place in the team all-around.

1942, at the age of 62 years, Hennig was nominated as the oldest candidate in the history of the Sullivan Award as the outstanding amateur athlete. He eventually became third in the election.

Over a period of almost 50 years Hennig won the national championship in the Club Swinging a total of 13 times; last when he was 71 years old. In 1911 he also won the title on high bar.
