Edward J. Hoffman

Edward Joseph Hoffman ( born January 1, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri; † 1 July 2004 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American scientist.

Life

Hoffman received his doctorate in 1970 in Nuclear Chemistry at Washington University in St. Louis. In 1973, he developed together with Michael Phelps the first PET scanner, which was also suitable for human medicine. He was appointed professor at the Medical School of the University of California, Los Angeles in 1976.

He was married to Carolyn Hoffman.
