Edward John Thye

Edward John Thye (* April 26, 1896 near Frederick, South Dakota; † August 28, 1969 in Northfield, Minnesota ) was an American politician and a member of the Republican Party.

Thye was born in 1896 near Frederick, South Dakota. A few years later he and his family moved to North Field, Minnesota. During the First World War he served in the United States Army Air Corps.

Thye 1942 was elected Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota. When then-Governor Harold Stassen during the Second World War, resigned from his post to enter the United States Navy, took over Thye 1943, the office and remained until 1947 governor of the state of Minnesota. In 1946 he was elected to the U.S. Senate, and represented there Minnesota January 3, 1947 to January 3, 1959. 1958 he lost re-election against Eugene McCarthy.
