Edward MacCabe

Edward McCabe ( born February 14, 1816 in Dublin, † February 11, 1885 ibid ) was a Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dublin.

Life

McCabe first visited the Father Doyle's school in Dublin and then moved to St. Patrick 's College, Maynooth, County Kildare after. He began a training of priests, was ordained a priest in 1839 and used in a Dublin parish as pastor. In 1854 he was appointed for two years after South Africa. In 1856 he took over the parish of St. Nicholas in Dublin. Cardinal Paul Cullen, Archbishop of Dublin, ordained him in 1877 as Titular Bishop of Gadara. Since then, McCabe was his assistant.

1879 McCabe successor of Cardinal Cullen and Archbishop was appointed. His tenure coincided with the turmoil in Ireland and he found himself more and more to the attacks by liberals, reformers and the rural population exposed. In 1882 he was elevated to the Cardinal stand. Like its predecessor, McCabe harbored concerns about the modernization movements in Ireland; which meant that he temporarily received police protection.

On February 11, 1885 died McCabe and at the cemetery Glasnevin ( McCabe Monument ) was buried in Dublin.
