Edward Pease (railway pioneer)

Edward Pease ( born May 31, 1767 in Darlington, † July 31, 1858 ibid ) was a British businessman. He belonged to the Quakers. He was famous because he initiated the Stockton and Darlington Railway and financed. He is sometimes referred to in England as the "Father of Railways ".

Edward was born the son of a wool merchant. At 14 he left school and worked in his father's business. In 1817 he spoke out, however, and began to bring into being that are operated with horses and should carry coals a railway. 1821 sure in cooperation with other entrepreneurs who founded Stockton and Darlington Railway.

George Stephenson was courting the founder instead of horses to use a steam locomotive. A demonstration was so convincing that Stephenson was hired as chief engineer. Pease participated Also on Stephenson's locomotive factory.

On September 27, 1825, the railway line was opened in the absence of Pease, because his son Isaac had died the night before. Soon after Pease retired and handed over all the activities of his son Joseph Pease.
