Edward Robinson (Maine politician)

Edward Robinson ( born November 25, 1796 in Cushing, Knox County, Maine, † February 19, 1857 in Thomaston, Maine ) was an American politician. Between 1838 and 1839 he represented the state of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Edward Robinson did not attend school and acquired the necessary knowledge itself. He was a sailor and was then active in Thomaston commercially. Politically, he joined in the 1830s, the Whig party. In 1836 and 1837 he sat in the Senate of Maine. After Congressman Jonathan Cilley was killed in a duel, Robinson was at the election due in the third electoral district of Maine as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he joined on April 28, 1838 its new mandate. Until March 3, 1839, he ended the legislative session of his predecessor.

After his time in Congress Robinson again worked in retail. He also became involved in the banking industry and in shipbuilding. In the years 1842, 1843 and 1844, he ran unsuccessfully for governor of Maine. Edward Robinson, died on February 19, 1857 in Thomaston and was also buried there.
