Edward Sparrow

Edward Sparrow ( born December 29, 1810 in Dublin, † July 4, 1882 ) was a prominent politician of the Confederate States of America.

Career

Edward Sparrow was born on 29 December 1810 in Dublin, Ireland. Later, his family emigrated to the United States and settled there in the state of Louisiana.

As a result of growing tensions between the northern and southern states of the United States 1861, the Confederate States of America emerged. Sparrow was subsequently elected as a deputy of Louisiana in the provisional Konföderiertenkongress, where he worked 1861-1862. Then he was elected to the newly created Senate of the Confederate States. There, he served in the 1st and 2nd Konföderiertenkongress 1862-1865.

Edward Sparrow died on July 4, 1882.

Note

Edward Sparrow was the richest man in the Confederate government. The Census of 1860 writes his assets to a value of 1.2 million dollars, which would have a comparable value of one billion today.
