Edwin B. Brooks

Edwin Bruce Brooks ( born September 20, 1868 in Newton, Jasper County, Illinois, † September 18, 1933 ) was an American politician. Between 1919 and 1923 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Edwin Brooks was a cousin of Congressman Edmund H. Hinshaw Nebraska. He attended the common schools and studied until 1892 at the Valparaiso University in Indiana. From 1894 to 1912 he officiated in various cities in Illinois as the school board. He also worked in Newton in the banking industry. Between 1914 and 1918 he was also a school board in Jasper County. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1918, Brooks was the 23rd electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrats Martin D. Foster on March 4, 1919. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1923 two legislative sessions. In 1922, Brooks was not confirmed. Between 1924 and 1930 he was Superintendent of Charities in Illinois; 1930 to 1932, he served as assistant attorney general of his state. He died on 18 September 1933, Newton.
