Edwin De Haven

Edwin Jesse De Haven (* 1819 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † October 2, 1865 ) was an American polar explorer and navigator.

De Haven, who had already gained ten year experience as a midshipman on the oceans, served 36 years on various ships, including from 1839 to 1842, he accompanied the American naval officer and Arctic explorer Charles Wilkes.

He achieved fame through the line of the first Grinnell expedition in 1850, an unsuccessful verlaufenen, funded by the U.S. merchant Henry Grinnell search for the missing Arctic explorer John Franklin. Afterwards, De Haven was busy surveying tasks and worked at Matthew Fontaine Maury on Nautical Observatory in Washington, DC.

The U.S. Navy named two destroyers after him.
